Are You Smarter Than a 4 Year Old?

When we’re children, we look at things very simply as children do. We have very basic needs and what seems like a magical ability to focus on attaining them with cunning precision. I often joke that children are the closest things to real magicians that exist on this planet, and believe we can learn a lot by applying certain principles to our adult lives. Though you may not remember it, the moment you learned to apply “I’ve got a secret” to get someone to do something, you were tugging at the strings of influence.

I’ve been having major breakthroughs in my personal business over past few months, and have actually sponsored 300% more people in the past 60 days than I did in the previous 9 months. What changed? A few things really which I will blog about over the coming weeks, but one key change was reframing my productive energy around MY personal WHY! To do that, I had to think back to when I was a kid. Let me explain.

I recall one afternoon at a family picnic, I must have been about 3 or 4, when I was flying my throw-plane around the backyard and it got stuck in the tree. I was not happy about this! The adults all gathered around and thought and schemed but no one wanted to get their nice pastel clothes sullied by climbing up that darn tree.

By now I’d stopped blubbering, and started to get an idea. I said, “Why don’t we shoot it down with a garden hose?” and proceeded to watch 20 adults’ mouths a-gasp. They didn’t know how to respond. I had solved their problem, albeit by showing them up at a social gathering, but that’s how we eventually got my plane out of the tree and kept their lacoste’s nice and clean.

Now what does this have to do with direct sales, online marketing or making you money?

Well, if you can combine the jaw dropping “idea in their head” moment without the “you little bugger” reaction then you’ve got a winner. See, in an ideal situation your prospect will actually come up with the idea themselves; you just guide them and provide supporting evidence.

People may think logically, but they make decisions emotionally. Think about any major purchase; you may do your research but at the end of the day it’s usually an emotional impulse that gets you to pull out your credit card. It’s the moment when they think “Exactly, that’s what I was saying” that the connection is made.

It was the reframing of my approach that allowed me to start connecting with folks on a more emotional level and relating to their needs, and that’s when the sales started happening. Of corse, using a proven system to turn online leads into paying customers and free marketing training helps too.

What’s one thing you did as a child that was “absolutely brilliant” and how could you apply it to your life now to be more successful? Leave me a comment and let me know.
